A visit to Europe in the Summer months isn't complete without a quick hiatus in the South of France. Nice is a lovely city to have as a base so you can see some of the stunning scenery on offer along le Côte d'Azur. Pretty gardens included, of course. VILLA EPHRUSSI de ROTHschildSaint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat ‘Millenial pink’ has nothing on the shade of rose this art-filled villa has been decked out in. The building itself is grand and gorgeous, inside and out, but the garden is really worth talking about! Horticultural fanatic or not, the array of gardens - Japanese, Rose, Exotic, Stone, Florentine, Spanish, French and Provençal - within the walls and overlooking the pristine blue waters of the Côte d'Azur are stunning. To add to the grandeur, the main French garden erupts into an aquatic ballet, at timed intervals, with fountains dancing to the classical music that is played overhead. One visit and you'll understand why it is worth the millions it takes to hire as a wedding venue. From Nice, take bus 81 and get off at Passable stop after ~ 20 minutes. @villaephrussi Paloma BeachSaint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat Named after frequent visitor, Paloma Picasso, this little cove of paradise is always a good idea, especially post Villa Ephrussi visit! The private beach section is available, for a pretty penny, but why pay when you can be just as comfortable with a thick towel (rocks instead of sand, remember) and the freedom to change spots whenever the sun moves. A good book is essential, or just listen to the waves gently splash against the beach stones and French children giggling on their paddle-boards. @paloma_beach PEIXES4 Rue de l'Opéra, Nice ‘Pisces’ in French, is a dinner spot easily dismissed as it’s located on a busy street en route to the Promenade Anglais. But dismiss it not as it is the perfect stage for people watching and with handsome staff, the tuna tartare avec wasabi peas wont be the only thing you’d be missing out on! EZEBest discovered as early in the morning as your holiday mode will allow (or join the crowds from 11am), this hilltop village has magnificent views over the French Riviera and is only a 30 minute bus ride from Nice. Plenty of picturesque, vine covered nooks perfect for your next ‘plandid’.
Make sure you wander down all paths that lead from le Jardin Exotique, which is where the vistas blow your mind and you will find a little grotto tucked away in the shade to rest your feet. If all the steps wear you out, there is a bus down to the coastline for a dip in the ocean and a lobster roll at Papaya Beach restaurant. From Nice, take bus 82.
